WHY! THE KEY TO ACHIEVING YOUR DREAMS

WHY! THE KEY TO ACHIEVING YOUR DREAMS

If you’ve ever spent time around kids, I’m sure you’ve heard the classic childhood question: “WHY?”  We asked that question as kids ourselves and today our own children ask the very same thing … many times, over and over again.

WHY has a deep purpose for all of us.  It’s what truly provides our motivation in life.  Without it we can’t move forward with any conviction or success.

Just how important is it to have a clear WHY?  I believe Jesus gives us the best example.  Jesus was well aware His WHY!  Of His purpose and mission to announce the Kingdom of God and make it present in his actions, and in his words, so that the world would be reconciled with God and renewed to a better and more abundant life.

If you look beyond this spiritual picture however, and also look at the world’s top leaders, you will find they have a strong clarity around their true purpose, and their actions are focused around supporting their WHY.

And here is what I know for sure … if you know your WHY, you’ll figure out the how.

The power of serving a strong WHY has resulted in more innovations today than we can count — just think of Steve Jobs and everything he created at Apple.

This is why determining you WHY is so necessary.

So, how does a person determine their WHY?  First of all, it takes time and effort, and here are a few things that your WHY provides for you:

1. It motivates you and gives you purpose

Knowing WHY you do what you do is crucial. Otherwise we would all just be aimlessly wandering about without any real sense of purpose or end goals in mind.

2. It helps your decision making

When your WHY is kept at the forefront of all that you do, making decisions becomes a lot easier. It helps you to remember your values so when it comes time to make decisions, you’re doing what’s best for you.

3. It drives you when times get tough

It can be easy to lose sight of why we work so hard to try to make our dreams happen if we don’t keep the WHY in mind as we go through those tough times. If you’re having a bad day or feel like you’ve lost your sense of purpose in doing what you do, keep reminding yourself of why you got started in the first place.

So, this is my challenge for you:

Take time today or at the very least, this week, to ask yourself “WHY?”.

For example:

  • Why do you do what you do for a living?

  • Why do you have the lifestyle that you currently live?

  • Why are you a stay-at-home parent?

  • Why do you wake up every day and do the things that you do?

Asking yourself this might reveal that you don’t have a WHY.  And that’s okay.  It just means you have given yourself an opportunity to reevaluate your goals and create a plan of action to live more purposefully and become more fulfilled by the things you do.

If you do find yourself being able to pinpoint your WHY, keep it locked in your heart and in your mind.  Especially on days when you need extra motivation to keep moving ahead!
